Geant2 PR Group Meeting - September 2008

Geant2 has a series of services many of which seem to be poorly understood and promoted. This is leading to a drive to brand and promote the services more widely.

In branding terms the plan is to link to the existing Geant2 brand with some sub elements for the services eg Geant2 educonf. First step is creation of Geant2 PR guidelines document – this is really a set of standard txt and a position statement – the aim is to build some consistency of description. The next stage will be branding guidelines referring to the colour ways, templates, logos etc, initially for Geant2 and then the services and TEIN2 etc. Trademarking is another aspect of the branding work and will help to secure the marks against competitors eg eduGAIN and educonf

An interesting discussion that almost all NREN’s and similar organisations are facing the same issues of branding and how to get the topic and wider marketing issue either discussed at a senior level and getting active support at this level.

Geant2 now building a comms plan covering branding (messages, objectives, website etc), press & media (releases, interviews, case studies) and other actions( exhibitions, speaking opportunities advertising)

Also in process of a range of actins including datasheets on services, planned web site for educonf and a refreshed website for Geant2 in preparation for Geant3
