Web 2.0 Technologies and Corporate Brochures
September 28, 2007 |
Session 1, Day 2, TF-PR Meeting Lisbon September 2007
Using Web 2.0 in JISC
Due to some domestic emergencies Matt Jukes was unable to make the planned presentation on how JISC is starting to use Web 2.0 as part of its marketing tools. Robert Haymon-Collins gave a brief overview of the strategy behind the decision to try and embrace Web 2.0. Interestingly no other country is yet using much Web 2.0 applications, although Terena has started to use podcasts. Matts original presentation will be made into a slidecast and comments are invited via his blog
Corporate Brochures and Annual Reports
Two brief presentations about how to produce corporate brochures – good practice suggestions and then discussions about the problems of producing corporate brochures. Not surprisingly many people feel that they are largely a waste of time, they get thrown away, not read but still are requested by senior management. Some NREN’s, such as the Dutch, they are producing small, slim documents in preference to the past larger comprehensive documents
In terms of Annual Reports, again all organisations produce one, sometimes as a legal requirement, but most find then difficult documents to produce and sometimes with questionable value. All seems to share the same problems of senior people being experts and slowing the whole process up and compromising the end product. The recent Belgian Annual Report clearly was a vast project, almost entirely out-sourced – an 80 page document costing I the region of 70k euros

Robert,
I liked your presentation and I am jealous of your use of web 2.0 thingies. Hopefully we’ll be able to use them at SURFnet in the near future as well, but I think we’ll have some missionary work to do before then…
Will have a look at Matt’s slidecast later!
Hey - thanks for the comment and well done on finding the blog - my first comment!
Yippie;-)
Is it possible to receive notification of replies to replies?
Haven’t got round to the slidecast yet. My to-do list is too long!!;-)
